Can this sport get any more gadgety?

You may have noticed that I post this entire blog from my iPhone. This is all done on BlogPress. I actually start the blog posting on the course and clean it up after.

You may have also noticed that I snapped off a bunch of stats about my last round. That's all thanks to oobgolf.com. You can live score by using SMS, but I'm testing a couple of iPhone apps. This last round was scored with Fore! It's a pricey little app, but use AppSniper to catch it on a price drop.

I keep my handicap on the RCGA site, but I'm liking the easy entry of stats into oobgolf.

The interface was really easy to use. Big numbers and buttons. You download or create your course on line You can enter total strokes, putts and fairways hit (noting if you missed right of left). There is some redundancy though. If I enter two putts, I'd expect that it would integrate with total strokes, but it doesn't. You have to include your putts entering total strokes and also record the number of putts. It was quick to upload to oobgolf and once it's there, the round shows up on your profile. You can click through to a nifty scorecard representation of your round with all your stars figured out. I'd like to enter sand saves as well, but the best thing about Fore! is the clean interface, really easy to use. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly if it didn't cost 20 bucks.

Next round I'm trying out Golfcard, which is supposed to also upload to oobgolf. I'll let you know how it compares.

If you're a member of the oobgolf community or join it (which I recommend), drop in on me and say "hi"! I'm jaslucien, look me up.
